the upload itself on megaupload is not infected, but this is a danger from almost any file-sharing medium - you allow one download, so a few more must be "ok"
what is usually getting downloaded in the background are spyware: dataminers, tracking cookies, etc
norton and the like use a virus/trojan signature for them even though they are not
now - what I would still like to do is to evaluate how much bandwidth is required for a month for downloading. I don't know of if our host has a bandwidth x-amount or not, most do. I think the downloading from the host would be faster & more stable, but here's an idea of bandwidth required:
- The size of the file on-disk is 890MB
- Let's say we have an average of 20 new players a month
- That would be 17.38GB of transfer per month in downloads only (890 * 20 / 1024 = 17.3828125)
- That isn't including bandwidth for the site.
I fully support moving the file to our host, possibly zipped. GMs just need to evaluate based on the hosting package if that's feasible.
I've also downloaded the file from megaupload twice, with nothing 'extra' coming with it. I don't use IE. I run firefox with the no-script and ad-block add-ons.
